The Stone of Art

Lapis lazuli, with its deep blue symbolizing nobility and spirituality, played a crucial role in the development of the ultramarine pigment. Known for its exceptional blue, this pigment was widely used in European sacred art.

In the Middle Ages, Venice established itself as the most important port for lapis lazuli from the Afghan mines. By controlling the trade in this mineral and ultramarine, Venice consolidated its economic and cultural influence, enriched its artistic heritage and confirmed itself as a central center of history and mysticism.

To honor this tradition, Venezianico designed a Nereid with a lapis lazuli dial, of which only 400 pieces will be produced for 2024.

Looking for the perfect blue

Creating ultramarine from lapis lazuli was a sophisticated and complex art. The raw lapis lazuli was crushed in a stone mortar and then ground into a fine powder. This powder was mixed with water and binders to form a paste, which was then washed to remove impurities and isolate the pure ultramarine pigment. The result was an intense and bright blue pigment that was known for its beauty and durability.

Lapis lazuli is a gemstone of intense deep blue that is often streaked with golden pyrite veins. Its surface is characterized by a grainy texture and a bright color ranging from azure to dark blue.

My personal conclusion on Venezianico Nereid Lapis Lazzuli

David Drilling

"I was immediately in love with it, even though I only saw one photo. Enough to imagine what the dial looks like. You already know the rest of the watch, at least I do. Had hundreds in hand. The typical, beautiful Venezianico Nereid as a typical diving watch. Sorry that there are no further details yet, no reason for me not to order the watch. As I said, one photo is enough for me to secure my watch. "
