All about the Hanhart 417 ES 1954 39mm on leather strap

Hanhart Presents the 417 ES 1954 in 39mm – A Tribute to the Original

The traditional brand Hanhart from Gütenbach in the Black Forest is returning to its roots and releasing a new edition of its most famous chronograph: the 417 ES 1954 in the original case size of 39 mm. Following the successful relaunch of the 417 ES in the larger 42 mm stainless steel case almost two years ago, Hanhart is now going a step further and focusing on the essence of this iconic model. The abbreviation "ES" stands for "Edelstahl" (stainless steel), while the number "1954" honors the original production year. This reinterpretation brings back the legendary stopwatch in its historically correct size – as a permanent part of the official, non-limited collection.

Historical Details, Modern Materials

The new 417 ES 1954 is a kind of time machine that combines the characteristic design elements of the past with the best materials of today. Particularly striking are the sharply drawn, polished chamfers that prominently highlight the transition from the satin-finished lugs to the case flanks. Another typical feature of Hanhart watches is the fluted bezel, which can be rotated continuously in both directions. The red marker on the bezel is a nod to the historical model and gives the watch its classic look.

Authentic Dial and Luminescence

The bi-compax layout of the dial and the true-to-original lettering transport the wearer back to the 1950s. Hanhart has deliberately revived the historical numbers, fonts, and brand logo design of that era. For optimal readability, both the hands and the numerals are coated with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring perfect legibility day and night.

A Chronograph with a Military Past

The 417 was originally developed as the first pilot's chronograph for the newly established German armed forces. Based on the criteria of robustness, reliability, and readability, Hanhart created a timepiece that accompanied the German armed forces for almost a decade. From 1963, the brand increasingly focused on the production of hand stopwatches, which makes the remaining examples of the original 417 sought-after collector's items.

Modern Movement and Reliable Technology

Inside the 417 ES 1954 ticks the precise hand-wound caliber SW510 in Swiss-Made quality. This movement, protected by a screw-down stainless steel case back, offers a stop-seconds function and a power reserve of up to 58 hours when fully wound. The chronograph is traditionally hand-wound and promises high reliability thanks to its high-quality mechanism.

Comfortable Strap for Everyday Use

For maximum wearing comfort, the watch features a black calfskin strap in a Bund style. The underlay provides a comfortable feel from the very first wear, while the Alcantara interior offers additional comfort. A robust pin buckle made of stainless steel, adorned with the historical Hanhart logo, ensures a secure fit on the wrist.

The 417 ES 1954 Flyback is a successful tribute to the original Hanhart 417 and at the same time a modern masterpiece of watchmaking. It combines classic aesthetics with innovative technology and is a must-have for every lover of traditional chronographs.

About David from WATCHDAVID

My name is David, and I've been deeply involved with watches for many years – not just as a dealer, but primarily as a tester, photographer, and classifier.

Since 2018, I’ve been running WATCHDAVID as an independent watch project featuring reviews, videos, and real-world wearing experiences. Many of the watches you'll find here have been on my own wrist – often for extended periods.

WATCHDAVID.SHOP is intentionally personal. I only sell watches that I genuinely stand behind – no anonymous mass-produced goods, no dropshipping, no "quick trends." Experience, transparency, and honest assessment are paramount to me.

And yes: I am not an anonymous seller. I enjoy good food, sneakers, and photography – and I have a proven weakness for Kinder Chocolate.

If you have any questions or are unsure, feel free to contact me directly. I will respond personally.

Shipping & Insurance

Within Germany and the EU, shipping is free of charge. Shipping is handled by DHL and insured up to €500, €2,500 or €25,000, depending on the watch's value. The watches are therefore always sufficiently insured.

You can find the delivery time in the description and/or below the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after an order is placed, while others are brand new and, for example, will only be available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...

Revocation & Return Shipping

You can revoke your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.

I will cover the return shipping costs for you.

IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself; I will send you the free return label.

To do this, please simply contact me. david@watchdavid.com

It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of any signs of wear. After a successful inspection, I will refund the purchase price to you. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.

Authenticity & Condition of the Watches

I guarantee that all watches I offer are exclusively new, original goods. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly state otherwise (e.g., so-called PHOTO WATCHES).

As an official dealer, I exclusively offer authentic products. These are offered in their original packaging, with a warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in a so-called Full Set. Some deliver more, some less...

Warranty & Service

All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which is usually two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.

Should a warranty claim arise, I will take care of shipping the watch to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and will also organize its return to you. In addition, I will handle all communication with the manufacturer, so you don't have to worry about anything.

Even after the warranty period has expired, I will remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.
