All about the Hanhart 417 ES 1954 Flyback Panda Stainless Steel 39mm
Hanhart Celebrates 140 Years of Watchmaking Tradition
140 years ago, Johann A. Hanhart laid the cornerstone for the brand that is known today for precise timekeeping and innovative chronographs. What once began as a small watch shop quickly developed into a renowned manufacturer of timepieces with a stop function. To celebrate its anniversary, Hanhart is presenting the new 417 ES Flyback, available in two different case sizes and two dial variations. Each version is equipped with the high-quality Flyback caliber, which features a column wheel and is classically hand-wound.
Available again soon.
Return of a Legend: The 417 ES 1954 Flyback
Two years ago, Hanhart celebrated a successful comeback of the legendary 417 ES in a 42mm stainless steel case. This year, the brand is expanding its range with a 39mm variant, which is based on the historical design of the original watch from the Hanhart museum. This new edition not only brings back a classic size but also relies on the proven quality and functionality that pilots of the newly founded Bundeswehr already appreciated in the 1950s. The 417 ES was developed for the air force at the time and is now a sought-after collector's item among vintage chronograph enthusiasts.
Panda Dials for More Contrast
The new 417 ES Flyback impresses not only technically but also visually. It is available with both a Panda dial (white-black) and a Reverse Panda dial (black-white). These color variants not only offer strong contrasts but also excellent readability. Even in poor lighting conditions, the Super-LumiNova® C3 coating ensures clear visibility. The luminous material used guarantees optimal readability day and night, making it the perfect companion for any adventure.

Technical Masterpiece: The New Flyback Caliber
To meet the high standards of Hanhart tradition, the brand is bringing back the Flyback function, also known as tempo switching. This function allows a new time measurement to be started immediately with a single press of the reset pusher – ideal for precise time measurements in the seconds range. The new caliber AMT5100 M, developed by the "Manufacture AMT" division of Sellita, precisely controls the chronograph via a column wheel and offers a power reserve of at least 58 hours. This robustly constructed movement, which beats at a frequency of 4 Hertz, is a highlight for chronograph enthusiasts.
Perfect Wearing Comfort and Thoughtful Design
The wearing comfort of the new Hanhart 417 ES Flyback is ensured by a calfskin strap with a comfortable bund pad. The inside of the strap is lined with Alcantara, which provides a particularly soft feel. A classic pin buckle made of stainless steel, decorated with the historical Hanhart logo, secures the watch to the wrist.
Anti-Magnetic Case Back for Added Robustness
The simple, screwed case back, bearing the historical Hanhart logo, is not only visually appealing but also functional. To avoid making the chronograph unnecessarily thicker, the anti-magnetic property has been directly integrated into the stainless steel back. A consecutively engraved serial number on the side gives each watch a personal touch and makes it a coveted collector's item.
Conclusion: A Tribute to Hanhart's Chronograph Tradition
With the new 417 ES 1954 Flyback Panda 39, Hanhart not only celebrates 140 years of watchmaking tradition but also the comeback of an iconic watch that impresses with its robustness, reliability, and perfect readability. The combination of state-of-the-art technology and classic design makes this anniversary edition a highlight for watch enthusiasts worldwide.

FAQs
About David from WATCHDAVID
My name is David, and I've been deeply involved with watches for many years – not just as a dealer, but primarily as a tester, photographer, and classifier.
Since 2018, I’ve been running WATCHDAVID as an independent watch project featuring reviews, videos, and real-world wearing experiences. Many of the watches you'll find here have been on my own wrist – often for extended periods.
WATCHDAVID.SHOP is intentionally personal. I only sell watches that I genuinely stand behind – no anonymous mass-produced goods, no dropshipping, no "quick trends." Experience, transparency, and honest assessment are paramount to me.
And yes: I am not an anonymous seller. I enjoy good food, sneakers, and photography – and I have a proven weakness for Kinder Chocolate.
If you have any questions or are unsure, feel free to contact me directly. I will respond personally.
Shipping & Insurance
Within Germany and the EU, shipping is free of charge. Shipping is handled by DHL and insured up to €500, €2,500 or €25,000, depending on the watch's value. The watches are therefore always sufficiently insured.
You can find the delivery time in the description and/or below the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after an order is placed, while others are brand new and, for example, will only be available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...
Revocation & Return Shipping
You can revoke your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.
I will cover the return shipping costs for you.
IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself; I will send you the free return label.
To do this, please simply contact me. david@watchdavid.com
It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of any signs of wear. After a successful inspection, I will refund the purchase price to you. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.
Authenticity & Condition of the Watches
I guarantee that all watches I offer are exclusively new, original goods. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly state otherwise (e.g., so-called PHOTO WATCHES).
As an official dealer, I exclusively offer authentic products. These are offered in their original packaging, with a warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in a so-called Full Set. Some deliver more, some less...
Warranty & Service
All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which is usually two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.
Should a warranty claim arise, I will take care of shipping the watch to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and will also organize its return to you. In addition, I will handle all communication with the manufacturer, so you don't have to worry about anything.
Even after the warranty period has expired, I will remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.
