All about the Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick 42mm
The Return of a Legend: Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick
With the introduction of the Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick, Hanhart celebrates the rebirth of an iconic stopwatch. This model continues the tradition of a chronograph developed more than 60 years ago for officers and the medical service. The modern re-edition combines the classic design of the 1950s with contemporary precision and the latest manufacturing techniques. The result is a robust chronograph that is perfectly suited for both everyday wear and adventures.
Tradition with Attention to Detail
The 417 ES Moby Dick is characterized by a multitude of refined details that honor the watch's historical heritage. A sharply drawn and highly polished bevel emphasizes the elegant transition between the satin-finished lugs and the flanks of the case. Typical of Hanhart is the fluted bezel, which can be rotated steplessly in both directions. In contrast to other models, the Moby Dick foregoes the red position marker; instead, the marker's color matches the dial, giving the watch a particularly harmonious look.
Precise Manual-Winding Caliber
The high-quality manual-winding caliber SW510 in best Swiss-Made quality ensures reliable functionality. This movement, securely hidden behind a screwed-down stainless steel case back, offers not only a hacking seconds function but also a power reserve of at least 48 hours when fully wound. This makes the watch not only a stylish companion but also impresses with outstanding precision.

Luminosity Day and Night
The hands and numerals of the 417 ES Moby Dick are coated with Super-LumiNova®. This special luminous material guarantees excellent readability, even in poor lighting conditions. This makes the watch suitable for use at dusk or in dark environments.
Simple Case Back with History
A deliberately simple, screwed-down case back completes the design. It features the historic Hanhart logo and a side-engraved, continuous serial number, making each watch unique. Originally, the 417 ES was developed as an aviator chronograph for the German Armed Forces, but a rare variant with a white dial and thermally blued hands was also used by the navy and in the medical field. This special edition, known in collector circles as Moby Dick, is today a coveted vintage piece.
Fascinating, Blued Hands
Particularly striking are the thermally blued hands, which give the watch a unique visual effect. Depending on the light incidence, they shimmer in different shades of blue, which gives the watch an additional elegance and dynamism.
Improved Water Resistance and Manual Winding
While the historical model was only conditionally usable due to its limited water resistance, the new 417 ES Moby Dick offers water resistance of up to 10 bar. This makes it not only robust but also suitable for everyday wear in a wide range of conditions. Like the original, this re-edition is also manual-winding, which underlines the traditional charm of the watch and makes it a true collector's item.
With the 417 ES Moby Dick, Hanhart not only brings a piece of history back to the wrist but also combines classic elegance with modern technology. A must-have for lovers of historical chronographs who value quality and tradition.

FAQs
About David from WATCHDAVID
My name is David, and I've been deeply involved with watches for many years – not just as a dealer, but primarily as a tester, photographer, and classifier.
Since 2018, I’ve been running WATCHDAVID as an independent watch project featuring reviews, videos, and real-world wearing experiences. Many of the watches you'll find here have been on my own wrist – often for extended periods.
WATCHDAVID.SHOP is intentionally personal. I only sell watches that I genuinely stand behind – no anonymous mass-produced goods, no dropshipping, no "quick trends." Experience, transparency, and honest assessment are paramount to me.
And yes: I am not an anonymous seller. I enjoy good food, sneakers, and photography – and I have a proven weakness for Kinder Chocolate.
If you have any questions or are unsure, feel free to contact me directly. I will respond personally.
Shipping & Insurance
Within Germany and the EU, shipping is free of charge. Shipping is handled by DHL and insured up to €500, €2,500 or €25,000, depending on the watch's value. The watches are therefore always sufficiently insured.
You can find the delivery time in the description and/or below the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after an order is placed, while others are brand new and, for example, will only be available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...
Revocation & Return Shipping
You can revoke your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.
I will cover the return shipping costs for you.
IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself; I will send you the free return label.
To do this, please simply contact me. david@watchdavid.com
It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of any signs of wear. After a successful inspection, I will refund the purchase price to you. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.
Authenticity & Condition of the Watches
I guarantee that all watches I offer are exclusively new, original goods. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly state otherwise (e.g., so-called PHOTO WATCHES).
As an official dealer, I exclusively offer authentic products. These are offered in their original packaging, with a warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in a so-called Full Set. Some deliver more, some less...
Warranty & Service
All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which is usually two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.
Should a warranty claim arise, I will take care of shipping the watch to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and will also organize its return to you. In addition, I will handle all communication with the manufacturer, so you don't have to worry about anything.
Even after the warranty period has expired, I will remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.

Something can also slip through for me. Or the technology isn't working as it should. Feel free to contact me again. david@watchdavid.com
