All about the Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick 42mm

The return of a legend: Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick

With the introduction of the Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick, Hanhart celebrates the rebirth of an iconic stopwatch. This model follows the tradition of a chronograph that was developed more than 60 years ago for officers and the medical service. The modern new edition combines the classic design of the 1950s with contemporary precision and the latest manufacturing techniques. The result is a robust chronograph that is ideal for everyday use as well as for adventures.

Tradition with a love of detail

The 417 ES Moby Dick features a variety of refined details that honor the watch's historical heritage. A sharply drawn and highly polished bevel emphasizes the elegant transition between the satin-finished horns and the sides of the case. Typical for Hanhart is the fluted bezel, which can be rotated continuously in both directions. In contrast to other models, the Moby Dick does not have the red position marking; Instead, the color of the marking matches the dial, giving the watch a particularly harmonious look.

Precise hand-wound caliber

The high-quality hand-wound caliber SW510 in the best Swiss-made quality ensures reliable functionality. This movement, which is safely hidden behind a screwed stainless steel base, offers not only a stop seconds but also a power reserve of at least 48 hours when fully wound. This means that the watch not only remains a stylish companion, but also impresses with its outstanding precision.

luminosity during the day and at night

The hands and numbers of the 417 ES Moby Dick are coated with Super-LumiNova®. This special luminous material guarantees excellent readability, even in poor lighting conditions. This makes the watch also suitable for use at dusk or in dark environments.

Simple case back with history

A deliberately simple, screwed case back completes the design. It bears the historic Hanhart logo and a consecutive serial number engraved on the side, which makes each watch unique. The 417 ES was originally developed as a aviation chronograph for the Bundeswehr, but a rare variant with a white dial and thermally blued hands was also used by the navy and in the medical sector. This special version, known in collector circles as Moby Dick, is now a sought-after vintage piece.

Fascinating, blued hands

The thermally blued hands are particularly striking, giving the watch a unique visual effect. Depending on the incidence of light, they shimmer in different shades of blue, which gives the watch an additional elegance and dynamism.

Improved waterproofing and hand winding

While the historical model was only of limited use due to its limited waterproofness, the new 417 ES Moby Dick offers water resistance of up to 10 bar. This not only makes them robust, but also suitable for everyday use in a wide range of conditions. Like the original, this new edition is hand-wound, which underlines the traditional charm of the watch and makes it a true collector's item.

With the 417 ES Moby Dick, Hanhart not only brings a piece of history back to your wrist, but also combines classic elegance with modern technology. A must for lovers of historical chronographs who value quality and tradition.

About me

My name is David, I was born in the late 60s in NRW, now live and work in the beautiful Harz Mountains, and have been running this watch shop, among other things, since spring 2022.

Since 2018, I have also been running my watch blog watchdavid.de, which features hundreds of reviews and watch news. Since then, I have taken thousands of professional watch photos for over 100 watch brands. Many photos can be found in my reviews. I am known worldwide for this.

As a result, I naturally had thousands of watches in my hands. And with this shop, I want to bring you closer to watches that have convinced me in many ways.

So come along on a journey full of watches... off the mainstream... and if you have a question, please feel free to ask me anytime via the form, chat, WhatsApp, email or phone.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you.

PS: My hobbies & passions include the internet (first agency already in 1996), Denmark, France's coasts (Brittany, Normandy & Côte d’Azur), hiking, e-MTB, sales (Bachelor of Sales) and photography.

My Achilles' heel includes children's chocolate, good food, sneakers & of course watches... :-)

Shipping & Insurance

Within Germany and the EU, I ship free of charge. Shipping is done via DHL and insured up to 500€, 2,500€, or 25,000€, depending on the watch value. The watches are thus always sufficiently insured.

The delivery time can be found in the description and/or under the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after ordering, others are brand new and, for example, only available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...

Cancellation & Return Shipping

You can cancel your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.

I will cover the costs for the return shipping for you.

IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself, I will send you the free return label.

Please simply contact me for this. david@watchdavid.com

It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of signs of use. After successful inspection, I will refund you the purchase price. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.

Authenticity & Condition of the Watches

I guarantee you that all watches I offer are exclusively new original products. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly point this out (e.g. so-called PHOTO WATCHES).

As an official dealer, I offer you exclusively authentic products. These are offered in the original packaging, with warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in the so-called full set. One delivers more, another less...

Warranty & Service

All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which usually lasts two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.

If a warranty case occurs, I will take care of the shipping to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and also organize the return shipment to you. In addition, I handle all communication with the manufacturer so that you don't have to worry about anything.

Even after the warranty period has expired, I remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.
