All about the Hanhart 417 ES 42mm
Hanhart 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition – 39 mm
With the 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition, Hanhart presents for the first time a version of the legendary chronograph 417 made from Titanium Grade 5. While the historic model designation “ES” traditionally stood for stainless steel, this special edition deliberately uses a modern material that unites lightness, robustness, and technological innovation.
The matte finish of the case emphasizes the instrumental character of the chronograph and gives it a modern, technically influenced aesthetic. The watch is available in 39 mm and 42 mm, with each size limited to 200 pieces. This model thus combines historical pilot watch DNA with contemporary material technology and uncompromising mechanics.
Titanium Grade 5 – light, robust, and comfortable
For the first time in the brand's history, Hanhart uses Titanium Grade 5 for the case of a 417. This high-tech material impresses with its exceptional combination of low weight and high strength.
Titanium is significantly lighter than stainless steel and at the same time extremely durable. Moreover, it is skin-friendly and particularly resistant to sweat, saltwater, and temperature fluctuations. These properties make it an ideal material for durable and comfortable timepieces.
The matte titanium finish enhances the functional character of the watch and provides a modern interpretation of the classic pilot chronograph.
Precise hand-wound movement AMT 5100
Inside works the hand-wound caliber AMT 5100, a high-quality column-wheel chronograph with flyback function. This movement stands for precise timekeeping and reliable performance even under demanding conditions.
The sapphire crystal display back offers an unobstructed view of the complex interplay of mechanical components. In addition to the stop-seconds function, the movement provides a power reserve of at least 48 hours when fully wound.
Sand-colored desert aesthetics as inspiration
The inspiration for the 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition combines two iconic models of the brand: the historic 417 ES and the modern PRIMUS Desert Pilot.
The sand-colored dial, the sandblasted case, and the robust textile strap deliberately reflect the aesthetics and functionality of the desert. This design line also became known through rally driver Stephan Schott, who used a Desert Pilot in extreme off-road races like the Rally Dakar.

Historical Pilot Chronograph DNA
The original Hanhart 417 ES is considered one of the most influential pilot chronographs of the 1950s. Designed for military use, it combined a robust construction, precise chronograph function, and excellent legibility.
With its distinctive design, especially the characteristic fluted bezel, the 417 became an icon in Hanhart’s history and is now one of the sought-after vintage chronographs among collectors.
The new 417 TI Desert Pilot consistently continues this legacy, combining it with modern technology and materials.
Legibility and luminous material
The hands and numerals are coated with Super-LumiNova®. Nevertheless, this chronograph deliberately focuses on daylight aesthetics.
Due to the dark base tone of the dial, luminosity is limited in complete darkness. However, the hands remain more visible than the numerals but do not reach the brightness of displays on a light background.
Slim design despite domed glass
Despite the strongly domed sapphire crystal, the watch’s height remains just 13.6 mm. The goal was to create a slim design that feels present on the wrist without appearing oversized.
Comfortable rubber strap
On the wrist, a rubber strap with a subtle woven texture ensures high wearing comfort and a sporty appearance. The material combines flexibility with high durability and emphasizes the chronograph’s instrumental character.
The overall look is completed by a Grade 5 titanium pin buckle perfectly matched to the case material.
Robust for everyday use
With a water resistance of up to 10 bar (10 ATM) according to DIN 8310, the watch is perfectly equipped for everyday use. Additionally, the Hanhart shock protection safeguards the movement from shocks and increases the chronograph’s reliability even under demanding conditions.

FAQs
About David from WATCHDAVID
My name is David and I have been deeply involved with watches for many years – not only as a dealer but especially as a tester, photographer, and classifier.
Since 2018, I have been running WATCHDAVID as an independent watch project with reviews, videos, and genuine wearing experiences. Many of the watches you find here I have worn myself – often for extended periods.
WATCHDAVID.SHOP is deliberately kept personal. I only sell watches that I truly stand behind – no anonymous mass products, no dropshipping, no “quick trends.” Experience, transparency, and honest assessment are my priorities.
And yes: I am not an anonymous seller. I like good food, sneakers, and photography – and I have a noted weakness for Kinder Chocolate.
If you have questions or are unsure, feel free to contact me directly. I respond personally.
Shipping & Insurance
Within Germany and the EU, I ship free of charge. Shipping is done via DHL and insured up to 500€, 2,500€, or 25,000€, depending on the watch value. The watches are thus always sufficiently insured.
The delivery time can be found in the description and/or under the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after ordering, others are brand new and, for example, only available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...
Cancellation & Return Shipping
You can cancel your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.
I will cover the costs for the return shipping for you.
IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself, I will send you the free return label.
Please simply contact me for this. david@watchdavid.com
It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of signs of use. After successful inspection, I will refund you the purchase price. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.
Authenticity & Condition of the Watches
I guarantee you that all watches I offer are exclusively new original products. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly point this out (e.g. so-called PHOTO WATCHES).
As an official dealer, I offer you exclusively authentic products. These are offered in the original packaging, with warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in the so-called full set. One delivers more, another less...
Warranty & Service
All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which usually lasts two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.
If a warranty case occurs, I will take care of the shipping to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and also organize the return shipment to you. In addition, I handle all communication with the manufacturer so that you don't have to worry about anything.
Even after the warranty period has expired, I remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.
No response received?
You wrote to me via the contact form, through the price proposal, directly by email, chat, but you haven't received a reply?
Then please check your SPAM folder! Many providers are getting crazier and pushing more and more into spam.
I usually answer every inquiry within 24 hours at the latest. On weekends, it can sometimes take a bit longer. As a rule, I respond within a few minutes or hours.
Something can slip past me sometimes too. Or the technology doesn't work as it should. Feel free to write to me again at david@watchdavid.com
Mechanics - Sometimes things can happen there too
Before I ship your order, I carefully check each watch for visible defects.
If a problem should occur, such as damage during transport, please inform me immediately. I will do everything possible to quickly find a solution and ensure that you are satisfied.
My goal is to offer you not only high-quality products but also a first-class shopping experience. I look forward to welcoming you as a satisfied customer!
