All about the Hanhart 417 TI Desert Pilot, 42 mm
Hanhart 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition – 42 mm
With the 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition, Hanhart is presenting for the first time a version of the legendary 417 chronograph in Grade 5 titanium. While the historical model designation "ES" traditionally stood for stainless steel, this special edition deliberately opts for a modern material that combines lightness, robustness, and technological innovation.
The matte finish of the case emphasizes the instrumental character of the chronograph and gives it a modern, technically inspired aesthetic. The watch is available in 39 mm and 42 mm, with each size limited to 200 pieces. This model thus combines historical pilot's watch DNA with contemporary material technology and uncompromising mechanics.
Grade 5 Titanium – light, robust, and comfortable
For the first time in the brand's history, Hanhart uses Grade 5 titanium for the case of a 417. This high-tech material impresses with its exceptional combination of low weight and high strength.
Titanium is significantly lighter than stainless steel and at the same time extremely durable. Furthermore, it is skin-friendly and particularly resistant to sweat, salt water, and temperature fluctuations. These properties make it an ideal material for durable and comfortable timepieces.
The matte titanium finish enhances the functional character of the watch and provides a modern interpretation of the classic pilot's chronograph.
Precise hand-wound movement AMT 5100
Inside, the AMT 5100 hand-wound caliber operates, a high-quality column-wheel chronograph with flyback function. This movement stands for precise timekeeping and reliable performance even under demanding conditions.
The sapphire crystal case back offers a clear view of the complex interplay of the mechanical components. In addition to the hacking seconds function, the movement offers a power reserve of at least 48 hours when fully wound.
Sand-colored desert aesthetic as inspiration
The inspiration for the 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition combines two iconic models of the brand: the historical 417 ES and the modern PRIMUS Desert Pilot.
The sand-colored dial, the sandblasted case, and the robust textile strap consciously adopt the aesthetic and functionality of the desert. This design line also became known through rally driver Stephan Schott, who used a Desert Pilot in extreme off-road races such as the Dakar Rally.

Historical pilot chronograph DNA
The original Hanhart 417 ES is considered one of the most distinctive pilot chronographs of the 1950s. Developed for military use, it combined a robust construction, precise chronograph function, and excellent legibility.
With its striking design, especially the characteristic fluted bezel, the 417 developed into an icon of Hanhart's history and is now one of the coveted vintage chronographs among collectors.
The new 417 TI Desert Pilot consistently continues this heritage and combines it with modern technology and materials.
Legibility and luminous material
The hands and numerals are coated with Super-LumiNova®. Nevertheless, the focus of this chronograph is consciously on daylight aesthetics.
Due to the dark base tone of the dial, the luminosity in complete darkness is limited. However, the hands remain more visible than the numerals, but do not achieve the luminous intensity of displays on a light background.
Slim design despite domed glass
Despite the highly domed sapphire crystal, the watch's height remains at just 13.6 mm. The goal was to achieve the slimmest possible construction that appears present on the wrist without seeming oversized.
Comfortable rubber strap
On the wrist, a rubber strap with an implied woven structure ensures high wearing comfort and a sporty look. The material combines flexibility with high durability and underlines the instrumental character of the chronograph.
The overall picture is completed by a Grade 5 titanium pin buckle, which is perfectly matched to the case material.
Robust for everyday use
With a water resistance of up to 10 bar (10 ATM) according to DIN 8310, the watch is well-equipped for everyday use. In addition, the Hanhart shock protection protects the movement from shocks and increases the reliability of the chronograph even under demanding conditions.

FAQs
About David from WATCHDAVID
My name is David, and I've been deeply involved with watches for many years – not just as a dealer, but primarily as a tester, photographer, and classifier.
Since 2018, I’ve been running WATCHDAVID as an independent watch project featuring reviews, videos, and real-world wearing experiences. Many of the watches you'll find here have been on my own wrist – often for extended periods.
WATCHDAVID.SHOP is intentionally personal. I only sell watches that I genuinely stand behind – no anonymous mass-produced goods, no dropshipping, no "quick trends." Experience, transparency, and honest assessment are paramount to me.
And yes: I am not an anonymous seller. I enjoy good food, sneakers, and photography – and I have a proven weakness for Kinder Chocolate.
If you have any questions or are unsure, feel free to contact me directly. I will respond personally.
Shipping & Insurance
Within Germany and the EU, shipping is free of charge. Shipping is handled by DHL and insured up to €500, €2,500 or €25,000, depending on the watch's value. The watches are therefore always sufficiently insured.
You can find the delivery time in the description and/or below the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after an order is placed, while others are brand new and, for example, will only be available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...
Revocation & Return Shipping
You can revoke your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.
I will cover the return shipping costs for you.
IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself; I will send you the free return label.
To do this, please simply contact me. david@watchdavid.com
It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of any signs of wear. After a successful inspection, I will refund the purchase price to you. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.
Authenticity & Condition of the Watches
I guarantee that all watches I offer are exclusively new, original goods. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly state otherwise (e.g., so-called PHOTO WATCHES).
As an official dealer, I exclusively offer authentic products. These are offered in their original packaging, with a warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in a so-called Full Set. Some deliver more, some less...
Warranty & Service
All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which is usually two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.
Should a warranty claim arise, I will take care of shipping the watch to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and will also organize its return to you. In addition, I will handle all communication with the manufacturer, so you don't have to worry about anything.
Even after the warranty period has expired, I will remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.

I usually answer every inquiry within 24 hours at the latest. On weekends, it may take a little longer. As a rule, I reply within a few minutes or hours.
Something can also slip through for me. Or the technology isn't working as it should. Feel free to contact me again. david@watchdavid.com
