All about the Le Forban Sécurité Mer Marseillaise Abyss Blue

Le Forban "Marseillaise" - Abyss Blue in the spotlight

Introduction

The reinterpretation of the classic "Marseillaise" is a moment where tradition meets modern wearability - and in the Abyss Blue version, maritime heritage merges with an almost magnetic depth of color. Based on the historic Monnin model from 1979, this version is sleeker and more suitable for everyday wear, yet unmistakably retains the DNA of a true diver's instrument.

The Dial

The dial itself displays a fascinating play: a dark core emerges from the center, dissolving into a sunray-like blue, creating a remarkable sunray effect. Depending on the light, the surface shifts between deep black and vibrant blue, making the dial appear dynamic rather than static, revealing new nuances with every movement.

Play of Light

This play of colors makes the Abyss Blue particularly atmospheric - light breaks in fine rays across the surface, and the sparkle is never obtrusive, but always elegant and multi-layered. In sunlight, the blue appears lively and almost fluid, while on the wrist, it develops a certain gravitas, giving the overall impression depth and presence.

Luminosity and Readability

The luminous material used ensures clear orientation at dusk and at night: SuperLuminova C3 provides a strong, highly visible luminous effect that stands out pleasantly from the dark dial. This ensures that the Marseillaise remains reliably legible in serious operational situations - whether in twilight on deck or in the glow of a diving lamp.

Case & Wearing Comfort

The proportions have been deliberately reduced so that the watch fits the wrist even better: with a diameter of 40.8 mm, a shorter lug-to-lug length, and a reduced height, it wears more elegantly than its predecessor, without losing its robust appearance. Crafted from 316L stainless steel, the case combines technical solidity with an appropriate presence that suits both a shirt and a wetsuit.

Diver Details

The Marseillaise is not merely a design object - it thrives on authentic diver elements such as the unidirectional rotating bezel with 120-click mechanism, the distinctive "Arrow" hands, and the lollipop second hand, which together enable maximum functionality and quick readability. The screw-down crown completes the package and ensures the necessary safety during operations in the water.

Dive Bund® and Strap Choice

A highlight is the reinterpreted Dive Bund® made of FKM rubber: the removable central padding makes the strap suitable for diving and comfortable at the same time, while the "wave" structure on the back provides grip and ventilation. For those who prefer a more classic look, the brushed 316L steel bracelet with a tapered design and double-pusher folding clasp offers an elegant alternative that gives the Marseillaise its timeless appearance.

Mechanics & Reliability

Underneath the dial, a solid Swiss caliber works, known for its precision and everyday suitability: the Sellita SW200 delivers reliable timekeeping values, is easy to service, and provides the technical basis expected from a modern diver's watch. Thus, the watch combines emotional appeal with tangible mechanics.

Maritime Context

In blue, the Marseillaise also tells a story: the color concept is a tribute to the Mediterranean Sea and to Marseille itself, the port city rich in history and maritime tradition. This rootedness in the maritime context gives the timepiece a narrative layer that goes beyond mere optics and conveys feelings of sea, wind, and vastness.

Conclusion

The Abyss Blue variant of the Marseillaise is more than just a pretty color version - it is a well-thought-out overall work that combines wearing comfort, robust diver technology, and an emotional design. For those looking for a watch that works both underwater and demonstrates stylistic elegance on land, this version offers a particularly harmonious and alluring choice.

My personal view on the Le Forban Sécurité Mer Marseillaise Abyss Blue

David Drilling Fazit

WOW! "
