Le Forban “Marseillaise” — Abyss Blue in the Spotlight

Introduction

The reinterpretation of the classic “Marseillaise” is a moment where tradition meets modern wearability — and in the Abyss Blue version, the maritime heritage merges with an almost magnetic depth of color. Inspired by the historic Monnin model from 1979, this version is slimmer and more suitable for everyday wear, yet unmistakably retains the DNA of a true diving instrument.

The dial

The dial itself shows a fascinating effect: from the center emerges a dark core that dissolves into a sunray-like blue tone, creating a remarkable sunray effect. Depending on the light incidence, the surface shifts between deep black and vibrant blue, making the dial appear dynamic and revealing new nuances with every movement.

Play of Light

This play of colors makes the Abyss Blue especially atmospheric — the light breaks into fine rays across the surface, and the sparkle is never intrusive but always elegant and multilayered. In sunlight, the blue appears lively and almost liquid, while on the wrist it develops a certain weightiness that gives the overall look depth and presence.

Luminosity and Readability

The luminous material used ensures clear orientation at dusk and night: SuperLuminova C3 provides a strong, easily visible glow that stands out pleasantly against the dark dial. This keeps the Marseillaise reliably readable in serious situations — whether in twilight on deck or under the beam of a dive lamp.

Case & wearing comfort

The proportions were deliberately reduced so that the watch fits even better on the wrist: with a diameter of 40.8 mm, a shorter lug-to-lug length, and a reduced height, it wears more elegantly than the original without losing its robust character. Made of 316L stainless steel, the case combines technical solidity with an appropriate presence that suits both a shirt and neoprene.

Diving details

The Marseillaise is not just a design object — it lives from authentic diving elements such as the unidirectional rotating bezel with 120-click mechanism, the distinctive “arrow” hands, and the lollipop seconds hand, which together enable maximum functionality and quick readability. The screw-down crown completes the package and ensures the necessary security during water use.

Dive Bund® and strap choice

A highlight is the newly interpreted Dive Bund® made of FKM rubber: the middle removable padding makes the strap dive-capable and at the same time comfortable, the “wave” structure on the back provides grip and ventilation. Those who prefer a more classic look will find an elegant alternative with the brushed 316L steel bracelet with tapered design and double-pusher folding clasp, giving the Marseillaise its timeless appearance.

Mechanics & reliability

Under the dial works a solid Swiss caliber that stands for precision and everyday suitability: the Sellita SW200 delivers reliable timekeeping, is service-friendly, and provides the technical basis expected from a modern dive watch. Thus, the watch combines emotional appeal with solid mechanics.

Maritime context

In blue, the Marseillaise also tells a story: the color concept is a tribute to the Mediterranean and to Marseille itself, the port city rich in history and seafaring tradition. This rooting in the maritime context gives the timepiece a narrative layer that goes beyond mere appearance and conveys feelings of sea, wind, and vastness.

Conclusion

The Abyss Blue version of the Marseillaise is more than a pretty color variant — it is a well-thought-out overall work that combines wearing comfort, robust diving technology, and an emotional design. Those looking for a watch that works both underwater and shows stylistic elegance on land will find this version a particularly harmonious and tempting choice to wear.

My personal view on the Le Forban Sécurité Mer - La Malouine Black diving watch

David Drilling Fazit

"Jean-Sebastian had sent me 2 new watches again for a photo assignment. Unaware, I opened the package and I was immediately love-struck! Both by the design of the watches - especially the black Old Black with the eggshell indices caught my eye, although I am actually a fan of blue - through the new clasp on the steel bracelet to the completely newly developed and patented Dive Bund® strap, which can be worn in two different ways. What a perfect match. It has been a while since a dive watch grabbed me like this immediately. And when I wore it on my wrist for several days, I actually didn’t want to take it off anymore - of course with the Dive Bund®! This will also be available later in other colors... WOW!"

About me

My name is David, I was born in the late 60s in NRW, now live and work in the beautiful Harz Mountains, and have been running this watch shop, among other things, since spring 2022.

Since 2018, I have also been running my watch blog watchdavid.de, which features hundreds of reviews and watch news. Since then, I have taken thousands of professional watch photos for over 100 watch brands. Many photos can be found in my reviews. I am known worldwide for this.

As a result, I naturally had thousands of watches in my hands. And with this shop, I want to bring you closer to watches that have convinced me in many ways.

So come along on a journey full of watches... off the mainstream... and if you have a question, please feel free to ask me anytime via the form, chat, WhatsApp, email or phone.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you.

PS: My hobbies & passions include the internet (first agency already in 1996), Denmark, France's coasts (Brittany, Normandy & Côte d’Azur), hiking, e-MTB, sales (Bachelor of Sales) and photography.

My Achilles' heel includes children's chocolate, good food, sneakers & of course watches... :-)

Shipping & Insurance

Within Germany and the EU, I ship free of charge. Shipping is done via DHL and insured up to 500€, 2,500€, or 25,000€, depending on the watch value. The watches are thus always sufficiently insured.

The delivery time can be found in the description and/or under the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after ordering, others are brand new and, for example, only available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...

Cancellation & Return Shipping

You can cancel your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.

I will cover the costs for the return shipping for you.

IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself, I will send you the free return label.

Please simply contact me for this. david@watchdavid.com

It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of signs of use. After successful inspection, I will refund you the purchase price. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.

Authenticity & Condition of the Watches

I guarantee you that all watches I offer are exclusively new original products. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly point this out (e.g. so-called PHOTO WATCHES).

As an official dealer, I offer you exclusively authentic products. These are offered in the original packaging, with warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in the so-called full set. One delivers more, another less...

Warranty & Service

All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which usually lasts two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.

If a warranty case occurs, I will take care of the shipping to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and also organize the return shipment to you. In addition, I handle all communication with the manufacturer so that you don't have to worry about anything.

Even after the warranty period has expired, I remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.
