All about the MARATHON 34mm Desert Tan General Purpose Quartz GPQ – WW194004DT
Origin and Concept
The reinterpreted Steel Navigator draws on a military heritage that originated in 1986 in collaboration with Kelly Air Force Base, translating this robust tradition into a contemporary tool watch that prioritizes utility over show. The result is a watch worn because it performs its function — reliably, unpretentiously, and always ready.
High-Torque Movement
Inside, a Swiss ETA F06.115 HeavyDrive caliber operates, deliberately designed for increased loads and providing powerful drive to the display. This quartz movement combines precision with high torque capability, allowing even larger hands and robust displays to be effortlessly controlled.
Case Construction and Protection
The outer shell consists of a highly impact-resistant composite fiber casing that absorbs shocks and protects the internal mechanism without adding unnecessary bulk. This choice of material makes the watch particularly resistant to mechanical stress and ensures it maintains its integrity under harsh conditions.
Proportions and Wearing Comfort
With a diameter of 34 mm, a lug-to-lug length of 41 mm, and a height of 11.5 mm, the Navigator positions itself as a compact companion that sits confidently on the wrist. The balanced dimensions allow for long wear without fatigue and fit both slimmer and stronger wrists.

Dial and Night Readability
The matte black dial displays hours in 1–12 and 13–24 formats and is designed for quick orientation; hour and minute hands as well as indices are equipped with self-illuminating tritium tubes, ensuring consistent readability regardless of external lighting conditions.
Crystal, Crown, and Water Resistance
Above the dial is a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that withstands daily use as well as short outdoor excursions; the simple push/pull crown ensures uncomplicated operation. The construction is waterproof up to 3 ATM / 30 m — sufficient for splashes and everyday demands.
Material and Equipment Details
The watch relies on functional components: three jewels in the movement, a solid lug width of 16 mm, and a robust case construction, which together result in a technically consistent, durable overall concept. Nothing is playful; everything is geared towards reliability.
Band Options
For practical use, the Steel Navigator offers various durable strap options: either a ballistic Marathon nylon, the proven DEFSTAN nylon, or a system with a pin buckle made of 316L stainless steel — allowing the instrument to be quickly adapted to the respective area of application.
Conclusion: Honest Tool Watch
The reissue of the Steel Navigator is not a gimmick but a clear answer to the needs of users looking for a robust, easy-to-read, and reliably functioning instrument. Its character is defined by practicality and technical integrity — a watch to wear and use, not to merely admire.

FAQs
About David from WATCHDAVID
My name is David, and I've been deeply involved with watches for many years – not just as a dealer, but primarily as a tester, photographer, and classifier.
Since 2018, I’ve been running WATCHDAVID as an independent watch project featuring reviews, videos, and real-world wearing experiences. Many of the watches you'll find here have been on my own wrist – often for extended periods.
WATCHDAVID.SHOP is intentionally personal. I only sell watches that I genuinely stand behind – no anonymous mass-produced goods, no dropshipping, no "quick trends." Experience, transparency, and honest assessment are paramount to me.
And yes: I am not an anonymous seller. I enjoy good food, sneakers, and photography – and I have a proven weakness for Kinder Chocolate.
If you have any questions or are unsure, feel free to contact me directly. I will respond personally.
Shipping & Insurance
Within Germany and the EU, shipping is free of charge. Shipping is handled by DHL and insured up to €500, €2,500 or €25,000, depending on the watch's value. The watches are therefore always sufficiently insured.
You can find the delivery time in the description and/or below the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after an order is placed, while others are brand new and, for example, will only be available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...
Revocation & Return Shipping
You can revoke your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.
I will cover the return shipping costs for you.
IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself; I will send you the free return label.
To do this, please simply contact me. david@watchdavid.com
It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of any signs of wear. After a successful inspection, I will refund the purchase price to you. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.
Authenticity & Condition of the Watches
I guarantee that all watches I offer are exclusively new, original goods. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly state otherwise (e.g., so-called PHOTO WATCHES).
As an official dealer, I exclusively offer authentic products. These are offered in their original packaging, with a warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in a so-called Full Set. Some deliver more, some less...
Warranty & Service
All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which is usually two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.
Should a warranty claim arise, I will take care of shipping the watch to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and will also organize its return to you. In addition, I will handle all communication with the manufacturer, so you don't have to worry about anything.
Even after the warranty period has expired, I will remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.
No answer received?
You contacted me, via the contact form, about the price proposal, directly by email, chat, but you didn't receive a reply?
Then please check your SPAM folder! Many providers are getting crazier and crazier and are sending more and more to spam.
I usually answer every inquiry within 24 hours at the latest. On weekends, it may take a little longer. As a rule, I reply within a few minutes or hours.
Something can also slip through for me. Or the technology isn't working as it should. Feel free to contact me again. david@watchdavid.com
Mechanics - Sometimes things can go wrong
Before I ship your order, I carefully inspect each watch for visible defects.
However, should a problem arise, such as a defect during transit, please inform me immediately. I will do everything in my power to find a quick solution and ensure your satisfaction.
My goal is to offer you not only high-quality products but also a first-class shopping experience. I look forward to welcoming you as a satisfied customer!
