All about the OLLECH & WAJS OW Rallychron

The OLLECH & WAJS OW Rallychron is a love letter to the golden age of motor racing and the legendary tracks that witnessed some of the most memorable moments in the sport’s history. One of the key characteristics of this era was the diversity of tracks and the challenges they presented. From the fast and flowing circuits such as Monza and Spa-Francorchamps to the tight and twisty street circuits of Monaco, each track demanded different skills from drivers and teams alike. The Rallychron’s bezel displays hypothetical historical ‘perfect lap times’ for 11 of the world’s most iconic race tracks. It also features the characteristics of Ollech & Wajs’ classic competition chronographs and rally timers from the 60s and 70s.

OLLECH & WAJS OW Rallychron in Detail

In collaboration with Hervé Charbonneaux – a classic car collector, rally driver, rally historian, and author – Ollech & Wajs hypothesized perfect lap times for each circuit based on a range of criteria and variables. This included an in-depth analysis of the 1965–69 racing seasons, four years that saw the introduction of some of Ollech & Wajs’ most popular racing chronographs.

Drawing on Charbonneaux' extensive archives, lap times and other data from selected Grand Prix cars of the era – including the Ferrari 312, Cooper Maserati, McLaren M4B – as well as the performance of various drivers, were taken into account. This task was by no means straightforward, as racing conditions varied wildly from competition to competition; even track lengths, surfaces and configurations would change. The theoretical metrics engraved on the bezel are sure to ignite discussions among motorsport enthusiasts that last long into the night.

The Dial

The dial’s grayscale scheme is a tribute to the monochromatic news photography that captured the 60s racing action and continues to inspire generations of racing fans. In contrast, the chronograph hand and 30-minute timer hand are tipped with orange Super-LumiNova® to maximize readability in low-light driving situations.

The Case

The Rallychron inherits the chronograph case characteristic of OW’s most iconic chronographs from that period, and its distinctive black and white checkered baton hands are a nod to the universally recognized chequered racing flag. In addition to minute and hour timers, the watch boasts a tachymetric scale, a must for all racing chronographs, used trackside to measure speed and distance between competitors.

Under the hood of the Rallychron is a highly tuned and track-tested, individually engraved automatic Valjoux 7753 – a descendent of the historical Valjoux 72 movement that powered the best Swiss chronographs of the 60s and 70s, including several OWs. The movement is fitted with an OW-milled rotor. It is then regulated in five positions, adjusted, and power-tested, qualifying it for the OW Precision rating.

Two different straps Ollech & Wajs OW Rallychron

The watch is presented on a handcrafted, black, perforated Italian-made racing leather strap, which is breathable and ensures comfort over extended periods on the wrist. Alternatively, there is the option of the stylish and heavy-duty M-Heritage stainless steel mesh bracelet, with OW engraving on the pin buckles of both variants.

Ollech & Wajs has decades of expertise in manufacturing precision timepieces for motorsport – from Grand Prix competitions to long-distance endurance rallies. While automotive engineers and designers pushed the boundaries of what was possible on the track, developing faster and more reliable race cars, Swiss watchmakers like OW strived to create chronographs that could match these advancements.

The Rallychron honours this era of competitive spirit, in a watch that is a highly capable, rugged track timer and more. It is certified water-resistant to 300 m / 30 ATM, which not only surpasses any 1960s chronograph but also places it in a league of its own today.

About David from WATCHDAVID

My name is David, and I've been deeply involved with watches for many years – not just as a dealer, but primarily as a tester, photographer, and classifier.

Since 2018, I’ve been running WATCHDAVID as an independent watch project featuring reviews, videos, and real-world wearing experiences. Many of the watches you'll find here have been on my own wrist – often for extended periods.

WATCHDAVID.SHOP is intentionally personal. I only sell watches that I genuinely stand behind – no anonymous mass-produced goods, no dropshipping, no "quick trends." Experience, transparency, and honest assessment are paramount to me.

And yes: I am not an anonymous seller. I enjoy good food, sneakers, and photography – and I have a proven weakness for Kinder Chocolate.

If you have any questions or are unsure, feel free to contact me directly. I will respond personally.

Shipping & Insurance

Within Germany and the EU, shipping is free of charge. Shipping is handled by DHL and insured up to €500, €2,500 or €25,000, depending on the watch's value. The watches are therefore always sufficiently insured.

You can find the delivery time in the description and/or below the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after an order is placed, while others are brand new and, for example, will only be available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...

Revocation & Return Shipping

You can revoke your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.

I will cover the return shipping costs for you.

IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself; I will send you the free return label.

It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of any signs of wear. After a successful inspection, I will refund the purchase price to you. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.

Authenticity & Condition of the Watches

I guarantee that all watches I offer are exclusively new, original goods. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly state otherwise (e.g., so-called PHOTO WATCHES).

As an official dealer, I exclusively offer authentic products. These are offered in their original packaging, with a warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in a so-called Full Set. Some deliver more, some less...

Warranty & Service

All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which is usually two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.

Should a warranty claim arise, I will take care of shipping the watch to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and will also organize its return to you. In addition, I will handle all communication with the manufacturer, so you don't have to worry about anything.

Even after the warranty period has expired, I will remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.
