All about the Ralf Tech WRB AUTOMATIC CALIFORNIA

Historical Background

The iconic look of the so-called California Dial is rooted in an era when functionality was paramount: in the 1930s, pilots and sailors sought the quickest possible navigational aids, and the unusual mix of Roman and Arabic numerals proved to be particularly practical. This nominal heritage — a design that provides both legibility and character — gives the new WRB edition historical weight without descending into pure retro kitsch.

Origin and Identity

The WRB, which RALF TECH initially developed for military divers in 2019 and has offered to civilians since 2020, presents itself in this edition as a model with a clear WRB identity: compact, robust, and with a distinctive expression derived from proportion and detail. The series, limited to 100 pieces, combines the sober demands of a mission watch with artisanal elements, demonstrating how tradition can be seriously continued.

Dial and Legibility

The matte, deep black dial of the California version works with a warm luminous tone, as both hands and indices are fitted with Old Radium luminous material, which appears subtle during the day and provides clear orientation at night. This combination of classic aesthetics and modern luminous technology makes the dial more than just a surface: it becomes a stage where form and function remain in permanent balance.

Case Construction and Wearing Comfort

The satin-finished case made of 316L stainless steel measures a compact 39 millimeters in diameter and nestles comfortably on the wrist thanks to its moderate height; the screw-down crown at 4 o'clock also ensures a calm wearing profile and additional protection against accidental manipulation. In practice, this construction proves to be well thought out: it feels solid without appearing clunky, and the gently domed, internally anti-reflective sapphire crystal with a thickness of 3.5 mm underlines the high-quality overall impression.

Functional Details

The WRB remains a true diver's watch: the unidirectional rotating bezel with 120 clicks and an aluminum inlay, as well as the water resistance of 200 m according to ISO standard, are not mere labels, but practical prerequisites for use. The package is complemented by a screw-down case back, which is engraved and numbered — a clear sign that this is a limited, carefully documented piece.

Mechanics and Reliability

Beneath the dial ticks the RTA003®, an automatic movement based on the Seiko NH35, which boasts approximately 40 hours of power reserve and is valued for its robust everyday suitability. This caliber aligns with the WRB's philosophy: it delivers reliable precision, can be serviced worldwide, and thus complements the physical reliability of the case with a technically solid heart.

Straps and Adaptability

The included straps reflect the duality of elegance and readiness for action: a hand-stitched black vintage calfskin with beige contrasts gives the timepiece a warm, classic appearance, while the additional Tropic rubber strap immediately transforms the watch into a sporty, waterproof instrument. The interplay of these two options allows the watch to be adapted to the occasion in everyday life or on adventure with just a few adjustments.

Conclusion

The WRB Automatic California successfully walks the fine line between historical reminiscence and modern utility: it takes an iconic dial motif, gives it new meaning through contemporary materials and thoughtful detailed solutions, and remains unmistakably a tool watch with aspirations. Those looking for a compact, characterful watch with a genuine background and solid technical values will find a compelling offer in this limited edition.

About David from WATCHDAVID

My name is David, and I've been deeply involved with watches for many years – not just as a dealer, but primarily as a tester, photographer, and classifier.

Since 2018, I’ve been running WATCHDAVID as an independent watch project featuring reviews, videos, and real-world wearing experiences. Many of the watches you'll find here have been on my own wrist – often for extended periods.

WATCHDAVID.SHOP is intentionally personal. I only sell watches that I genuinely stand behind – no anonymous mass-produced goods, no dropshipping, no "quick trends." Experience, transparency, and honest assessment are paramount to me.

And yes: I am not an anonymous seller. I enjoy good food, sneakers, and photography – and I have a proven weakness for Kinder Chocolate.

If you have any questions or are unsure, feel free to contact me directly. I will respond personally.

Shipping & Insurance

Within Germany and the EU, shipping is free of charge. Shipping is handled by DHL and insured up to €500, €2,500 or €25,000, depending on the watch's value. The watches are therefore always sufficiently insured.

You can find the delivery time in the description and/or below the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after an order is placed, while others are brand new and, for example, will only be available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...

Revocation & Return Shipping

You can revoke your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.

I will cover the return shipping costs for you.

IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself; I will send you the free return label.

To do this, please simply contact me. david@watchdavid.com

It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of any signs of wear. After a successful inspection, I will refund the purchase price to you. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.

Authenticity & Condition of the Watches

I guarantee that all watches I offer are exclusively new, original goods. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly state otherwise (e.g., so-called PHOTO WATCHES).

As an official dealer, I exclusively offer authentic products. These are offered in their original packaging, with a warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in a so-called Full Set. Some deliver more, some less...

Warranty & Service

All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which is usually two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.

Should a warranty claim arise, I will take care of shipping the watch to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and will also organize its return to you. In addition, I will handle all communication with the manufacturer, so you don't have to worry about anything.

Even after the warranty period has expired, I will remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.
