Inspired by the horses of St. Mark's Basilica

The Nereid Bronze is inspired by the splendor of St. Mark's Horses, a symbol of power and wealth in Venice. These bronze horses, forged in ancient Greece, found their place at St. Mark's Church in the 13th century and tell the story of the conquests and the greatness of the lagoon city. The art of bronze processing, an essential part of Venetian know-how, is celebrated through this unique Nereid, which combines the grandeur of the past with contemporary craftsmanship.

THE HISTORY OF THE INSCRIPTION

The oldest mosaic in St. Mark's Church from the 13th century is a unique work that depicts the solemn oath of Doge Lorenzo Tiepolo in 1268 on the occasion of the transfer of the saint's relic Markus from the Doge's Palace to the Basilica. On the sides, the famous St. Mark's horses testify to the completion of the reconstruction of the basilica, accompanied by the Latin inscription "Collocat ung dignis plebs laudibus et colit hymnis ut venetos semper servet ab hoste suos" (This relic was erected for the praise and veneration of the people, so that it will forever protect the Venetian people from their enemies). The same phrase is expertly engraved into the handcrafted leather strap.

This feature not only ensures high performance, but is also characterized by the representation of the famous four horses of St. Mark's Basilica, which is the main inspiration for this represent model. The caseback made of 316L stainless steel prevents the bronze patina from coming into contact with the skin and is alternately sandblasted and radially satinized, giving it a noble and unmistakable appearance.
