The Precision of an Ancient Art

The production of Damascus steel is a centuries-old craft that requires the highest precision and artisanal skill. This special material is created through the repeated layering, forging, and folding of different steels with complementary properties. In a complex process that can take several days, the metals are folded and compressed up to a hundred times. The result is an extremely durable material with a dense and uniform structure. Its characteristic, wavy patterns arise from the repeated fusion of the alloys and make each piece a true unique item.

From the Forge Fire to the Dial

After precise cutting, the disc of Damascus steel undergoes an acid treatment. This step highlights the fine grain of the metal and brings out the unique patterns created by the multilayer forging process. This is followed by an elaborate mirror polish that further enhances the contrast between the surfaces. With a thickness of only 0.4 mm, the delicate dial is then combined with a brass base to ensure stability and a perfect fit to the movement. The final touch is given by the precise printing of details, the application of the indices, and the attachment of the logo – the moment when the face of the watch is completed.

Venice and the Legacy of Damascus Steel

As an important trading center between East and West, Venice played a central role in spreading Damascus steel in Europe. Due to its strategic location and the flourishing trade with the Near East, this valuable material reached the city and was prized for its exceptional hardness and unique wave patterns. Although it was not produced in Venice itself, local metalworkers adopted and reinterpreted the techniques of Eastern forging art. Thus, the city became an important center for the processing and refinement of Damascus steel. Through trade and craftsmanship, the legendary material for weapons became a coveted symbol of luxury and sophistication.

More Than Function – A Sign of Excellence

To optimally showcase the caliber Sellita SW200-1, we did not simply adapt an existing component but designed a completely new rotor from scratch. It was developed and manufactured in-house and sets new standards in terms of aesthetics and refinement. Its openwork structure reflects the brand logo, while the fine Côtes de Genève decoration creates a dynamic play of light and shadow. The polished edges of the openings – elaborately finished with anglage finishing – provide views into the underlying movement and give the construction additional depth. The design is completed by a 3N rose gold galvanic coating that makes the rotor shine with a noble glow.

The Art of Forging on the Wrist

Wearing a watch with a Damascus steel dial means possessing a piece of traditional craftsmanship on the wrist. Over centuries, the technique of folding, forging, and refining has been perfected so that each watch is an individual work of art. The fine, wavy patterns tell the story of their creation – shaped by artisanal dedication and the expertise of experienced smiths. But these timepieces stand not only for mechanical precision but also for a tribute to metallurgy that Venice spread throughout Europe over the centuries. Every detail embodies the highest craftsmanship and passion.

A Reflection of the Venetian Lagoon

The surface of Damascus steel reflects light in a fascinating way – similar to the water of the Venetian Lagoon, which changes with every breeze. The unique patterns of the dial are created by a centuries-old forging process in which metal layers are stacked, worked, and etched. The alternation between polished and matte surfaces creates a fascinating play of depth and movement – a dial that changes with the incidence of light, just like the colors of the lagoon throughout the day.

FAQs

About me

My name is David, I was born in the late 60s in NRW, now live and work in the beautiful Harz Mountains, and have been running this watch shop, among other things, since spring 2022.

Since 2018, I have also been running my watch blog watchdavid.de, which features hundreds of reviews and watch news. Since then, I have taken thousands of professional watch photos for over 100 watch brands. Many photos can be found in my reviews. I am known worldwide for this.

As a result, I naturally had thousands of watches in my hands. And with this shop, I want to bring you closer to watches that have convinced me in many ways.

So come along on a journey full of watches... off the mainstream... and if you have a question, please feel free to ask me anytime via the form, chat, WhatsApp, email or phone.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you.

PS: My hobbies & passions include the internet (first agency already in 1996), Denmark, France's coasts (Brittany, Normandy & Côte d’Azur), hiking, e-MTB, sales (Bachelor of Sales) and photography.

My Achilles' heel includes children's chocolate, good food, sneakers & of course watches... :-)

Shipping & Insurance

Within Germany and the EU, I ship free of charge. Shipping is done via DHL and insured up to 500€, 2,500€, or 25,000€, depending on the watch value. The watches are thus always sufficiently insured.

The delivery time can be found in the description and/or under the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after ordering, others are brand new and, for example, only available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...

Cancellation & Return Shipping

You can cancel your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.

I will cover the costs for the return shipping for you.

IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself, I will send you the free return label.

Please simply contact me for this. david@watchdavid.com

It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of signs of use. After successful inspection, I will refund you the purchase price. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.

Authenticity & Condition of the Watches

I guarantee you that all watches I offer are exclusively new original products. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly point this out (e.g. so-called PHOTO WATCHES).

As an official dealer, I offer you exclusively authentic products. These are offered in the original packaging, with warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in the so-called full set. One delivers more, another less...

Warranty & Service

All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which usually lasts two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.

If a warranty case occurs, I will take care of the shipping to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and also organize the return shipment to you. In addition, I handle all communication with the manufacturer so that you don't have to worry about anything.

Even after the warranty period has expired, I remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.

No response received?

You wrote to me via the contact form, through the price proposal, directly by email, chat, but you haven't received a reply?

I usually answer every inquiry within 24 hours at the latest. On weekends, it can sometimes take a bit longer. As a rule, I respond within a few minutes or hours.

Something can slip past me sometimes too. Or the technology doesn't work as it should. Feel free to write to me again at david@watchdavid.com

Mechanics - Sometimes things can happen there too

Before I ship your order, I carefully check each watch for visible defects.
