Nereide Tigris – An Homage to the Trade Routes Between East and West

With the Nereide Tigris, Venezianico combines the history of international trade with exceptional watchmaking artistry. Inspired by the centuries-old trade routes through which precious materials traveled from India to Venice, this model unites maritime heritage, natural beauty, and modern Swiss precision. The name “Tigris”, the Latin word for “Tiger”, refers to the striking tiger's eye dial, while “Nereide” commemorates the famous Venetian submarine and emphasizes the close connection to seafaring.

Inspiration from History

As early as the 1st century AD, Pliny the Elder described India in his Naturalis Historia as one of the most important sources of gemstones, spices, and precious materials. Trade routes emerged across the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and the Mediterranean, connecting not only goods but also cultures and knowledge between East and West.

Centuries later, Venice developed into the most significant trade center in the Mediterranean. Through Venetian merchants, precious materials from Asia reached Europe – including the fascinating tiger's eye. The Nereide Tigris commemorates this nearly two-thousand-year history of cultural exchange and seafaring.

A Dial Made of Genuine Tiger's Eye

The heart of the Nereide Tigris is its extraordinary dial made of genuine tiger's eye. This natural stone formed over millions of years through slow geological processes and is characterized by its distinctive fibrous structure. It creates the so-called chatoyance effect – a fascinating play of light where reflections seem to move across the surface depending on the viewing angle and light incidence.

The golden and amber veinings are created exclusively by the natural arrangement of mineral fibers. Since each stone slab has its own structure, no two dials are alike – making each watch a true unique piece.

Elaborate Manual Production

The production of a tiger's eye dial requires utmost precision. First, each stone slab is carefully aligned along its natural fiber direction to optimally showcase the characteristic chatoyance effect. Subsequently, it is cut using waterjet technology, which protects the delicate structure of the natural stone.

Then, the material is reduced to a thickness of only 0.4 millimeters and mounted on a brass base. Several polishing and finishing steps finally bring out the natural depth and special luster of the tiger's eye before indices and other dial elements are precisely mounted.

Fascinating Light Reflections

Tiger's eye only fully unfolds its effect in interaction with light. With every movement of the wrist, the reflections travel across the fine stone veins, creating a vibrant, three-dimensional impression. This optical dynamism arises not from artificial surface treatments, but solely from the internal structure of the natural stone – an effect that makes each watch unique.

Robust Diver's Watch with Maritime DNA

The Nereide collection is named in honor of the historic Venetian submarine Nereide and was developed as a high-performance diver's watch. With water resistance up to 200 meters, the Nereide Tigris is suitable for everyday wear as well as demanding water sports activities.

The 42-millimeter case made of high-quality 316L stainless steel is complemented by a scratch-resistant tungsten bezel. With a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, it offers exceptionally high resistance to scratches and wear. The anti-reflective sapphire crystal reliably protects the dial and ensures excellent readability at all times.

Swiss Precision

Inside, the proven Swiss automatic movement Sellita SW200-1 operates, offering hours, minutes, seconds, and a date display. The movement is complemented by Swiss-Made BGW9 Super-LumiNova®, which ensures excellent readability in the dark.

Sansovino Bracelet for Maximum Comfort

The specially developed Sansovino stainless steel bracelet harmoniously echoes the lines of the case. Its five-row construction combines satin-finished surfaces with polished accents and connects robustness with an elegant appearance. Thanks to the integrated fine adjustment, the clasp can be quickly and precisely adjusted without tools at any time, ensuring optimal wearing comfort.

An Homage to Venice's Maritime History

The engraved case back depicts the historic submarine Nereide, which gives its name to the entire collection. It symbolically stands for the spirit of discovery, engineering, and Italy's long maritime tradition. Just as Venetian merchant ships once brought valuable goods from the East to Europe, the Nereide Tigris also commemorates the desire to discover new horizons and overcome boundaries.
