All about the VULCAIN Chronograph 70's - Blue

An icon underwater reimagined

The Vulcain Cricket Nautical is more than a classic diving watch – it is a technical instrument with historical depth and a fascinating story. With its distinctive 42 mm stainless steel case and the substantial height of 17.35 mm, it embodies the robust presence expected from a professional diving watch. Its carefully polished 316L steel case creates a noble contrast to the functional orientation of this timepiece.

Design meets function

Behind the domed sapphire crystal, which is equipped with a anti-reflective coating, a semi-matte dial in deep black is revealed – featuring integrated decompression tables that are not only visually fascinating but also an essential aid in practice underwater. The polished silver hands and indices give the watch a subtle vintage aesthetic that also appears modern.

Mechanics with signature

Inside the watch beats the manually wound caliber V-10, a complex movement with a total of 165 components. It is a classic alarm movement with a double barrel and the so-called Exactomatic regulation. The frequency is 18,000 half oscillations per hour, and the power reserve of 52 hours emphasizes the endurance and precision of the movement. Particularly remarkable is the alarm function – with a runtime of around 20 seconds – which sounds reliably not only in the air but also underwater.

VULCAIN Nautical Heritage - Black White Luminova

The sound of the depths

This audible alarm function is enabled by the so-called Triple Case Back – a three-part case back system that acts as a resonance chamber. This design allows the alarm sound to remain audible underwater – a true unique feature. Alternatively, the watch is also available with a sapphire crystal display back, adorned with Vulcain's stylized "V", offering a view of the movement without compromising aesthetics.

Legacy of an adventure

The original Cricket Nautical emerged from a unique collaboration of three pioneers: Hannes Keller, a visionary deep-sea diver and mathematician from Switzerland; filmmaker and researcher Max-Yves Brandily; and certified diving instructor Arthur Droz. Together with Vulcain, they developed the first diving watch that combined a decompression table on the dial with an acoustic alarm function – a milestone in watchmaking history.

A moment of recognition

Especially touching is Vulcain's tribute to Hannes Keller, who passed away on December 25, 2022. His legendary dive mission on November 3, 1966, off Toulon, where he reached nearly 250 meters depth – with a Cricket Nautical on his wrist – was even personally witnessed by Jacques Cousteau. This watch was not only a tool but a faithful companion on one of the deepest documented dives of its time.

Technology for connoisseurs

Two superimposed dials – one fixed, the other rotatable – form the core of the decompression system. An additional screwed crown at 4 o'clock allows the scale to be set individually. Depending on the dive duration and depth, the necessary decompression stops at 9, 6, and 3 meters appear in a rectangular window. A mechanical solution that still sets standards today in its sophistication.

Tradition and innovation united

The Manufactory Vulcain, which originated as early as 1858, remains one of the most significant houses of Swiss watchmaking to this day. Its location in the picturesque Le Locle – in the heart of the Neuchâtel Jura – is not only historically important but also a symbol of the craftsmanship level embedded in each of its watches. The Cricket Nautical is a worthy heir to this long history – a combination of timeless technology and modern standards.

More than a watch

The Vulcain Cricket Nautical is not just a timepiece – it is a professional instrument, a collector's item for enthusiasts, and an expression of decades of engineering craftsmanship. Its unique profile, acoustic functionality underwater, and deeply rooted history make it a true milestone. Whether as a tribute to past heroics or as a tool for new adventures – this watch is ready for whatever comes.

FAQs

About David from WATCHDAVID

My name is David and I have been deeply involved with watches for many years – not only as a dealer but especially as a tester, photographer, and classifier.

Since 2018, I have been running WATCHDAVID as an independent watch project with reviews, videos, and genuine wearing experiences. Many of the watches you find here I have worn myself – often for extended periods.

WATCHDAVID.SHOP is deliberately kept personal. I only sell watches that I truly stand behind – no anonymous mass products, no dropshipping, no “quick trends.” Experience, transparency, and honest assessment are my priorities.

And yes: I am not an anonymous seller. I like good food, sneakers, and photography – and I have a noted weakness for Kinder Chocolate.

If you have questions or are unsure, feel free to contact me directly. I respond personally.

Shipping & Insurance

Within Germany and the EU, I ship free of charge. Shipping is done via DHL and insured up to 500€, 2,500€, or 25,000€, depending on the watch value. The watches are thus always sufficiently insured.

The delivery time can be found in the description and/or under the shopping cart button. Some watches are only produced after ordering, others are brand new and, for example, only available in a few weeks (so-called PRE-SALE), etc...

Cancellation & Return Shipping

You can cancel your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.

I will cover the costs for the return shipping for you.

IMPORTANT: Do not send the watch back yourself, I will send you the free return label.

Please simply contact me for this. david@watchdavid.com

It is also important that the watch is unworn and free of signs of use. After successful inspection, I will refund you the purchase price. The refund will be made using the same payment method you used for the purchase.

Authenticity & Condition of the Watches

I guarantee you that all watches I offer are exclusively new original products. The watches come directly from the manufacturer and have had no previous owners, unless I explicitly point this out (e.g. so-called PHOTO WATCHES).

As an official dealer, I offer you exclusively authentic products. These are offered in the original packaging, with warranty card, etc., just as they are delivered by the dealer. Everything in the so-called full set. One delivers more, another less...

Warranty & Service

All watches purchased from me come with the international manufacturer's warranty, which usually lasts two years. Some brands even offer a warranty of up to 5 years.

If a warranty case occurs, I will take care of the shipping to the manufacturer or the responsible service center for you and also organize the return shipment to you. In addition, I handle all communication with the manufacturer so that you don't have to worry about anything.

Even after the warranty period has expired, I remain your contact person and support you with service questions or repairs.

I usually answer every inquiry within 24 hours at the latest. On weekends, it can sometimes take a bit longer. As a rule, I respond within a few minutes or hours.

Something can slip past me sometimes too. Or the technology doesn't work as it should. Feel free to write to me again at david@watchdavid.com

Mechanics - Sometimes things can happen there too

Before I ship your order, I carefully check each watch for visible defects.

If a problem should occur, such as damage during transport, please inform me immediately. I will do everything possible to quickly find a solution and ensure that you are satisfied.

My goal is to offer you not only high-quality products but also a first-class shopping experience. I look forward to welcoming you as a satisfied customer!
